Mess-Ups: What Happens When Your Snare Throw Off Hits Your Bottom Hoop???!!!!!
By John Dutra | June 9, 2009

Sometimes we all slip up. We work on too many drums at once… we work too late… we measure once and…. well, you know what happens.
And yes… it does happen to EVERYONE.
So, what happens when you have placed your snare drum throw off and but plate too low to the resonating head? So low… that it collides with the head collar or bottom hoop?
Enter the Remo SA-0314-TD clear snare head.
The head has a low profile collar… which gives about another 1/2″ or so of “crankability” before bottoming out. It’s a perfect fix for too low of a butt/strainer placement, and also too high of a lug placement (which results in your tension rods bottoming out too soon.)

It seams that a recurring question pops up ever so often on the major drum building forums like ghostnote, drumshed, or drumforum.org.
“Where do I buy drum hardware? Can I get it at Guitar Center? Can my local music shop order stuff for me? “
The answer is NO!!! Guitar center and your local music shop will definitely sell tension rods (overpriced Gibralter products) and triple flanged and die cast tom or snare hoops, along with other goodies like snare wires, nylon washers, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
But for buying custom drum lugs, mounting screws, floor tom brackets, floor toms legs, suspened or mounted tom mounts, snare strainers (throw offs and butt plates), air vents, gaskets, and more…BUY THE PRODUCTS ONLINE!!! Simply put, you won’t find them at Guitar Center or your local music shop.
Be sure to shop around and chose the most appropriate hardware for your unique project, but first consider these things (Remember: Poor products yield poor results)
