DIY Custom Drum Wrap
By John Dutra | November 18, 2008

As mentioned in the Guerrilla Drum Making DVD, inspiration for the collage portion of the DVD came directly from the ideas and techniques of Thomas Given; an artist, photographer, musician, and good friend of mine.
Tom’s DIY custom drum wrap is made up of thousands of pieces, producing a visual explosion of images of all shapes and colors. As I explain in chapter 1 of the DVD, the collage finish is easy to do, costs about as much as the internet your paying for right now, and can be applied to new or used shells for a bad ass finish!
Here’s some pics to wet your appetite. And by the way, ALL the images used in Tom’s collage kit and the ones I used in Guerrilla Drum Making were cut from books in the $5 bargain bin at local bookstores.
Not a bad price these days, right?

Snare Drum Lacquer Damage

My good friend Greg prints beautiful laminates that resemble exotic woods, scenery, and more. This blog quickly runs through the process of turning my newly found snare drum into a wrapped snare drum (thanks Greg!).
