Everyone gets a headache when dealing with a bass drum and a striped laminate sheet. Reason being is that aside from the full 54″ wrap, you’ll need a patch or “belly” piece to cover the entire bass drums circumference (the belly piece, therefore, is also striped). Essentially, this means that when applying the covering to the drum, you have TWO seams that overlap on both sides of the patch piece…which means you have TWO sides of stripes to line up.
Do most custom drum companies line their stripes up perfectly?I wouldn’t say “MOST”
Instead of following the traditional way of laying your patch down first and bonding it to the drum, and then rolling on your full 54″ sheet….I’ve found that the technique shown in the Guerrilla Drum Making DVD to work wonders for stripe lineups……so enjoy this sample clip thats been loaded onto the Guerrilla Drum Making Youtube site.
